I'm going to do a rating system on where this D.V.D. will end up in my household..
1 Star.. Straight to Ebay.
2 Stars... It will sit on my "older" D.V.D. rack to collect dust.
3 Stars.... It will stay in my "watch often" to go through every once in a while.
4 Stars.... I'll let run while I'm working....
5 Stars.. My girlfriend will have to sit through it even though she doesn't know the bands....

DEF LEPPARD
HYSTERIA

By D.J. Spidey

Review: This is the first "classic artists" series that I have reviewed so far.. and it was great, very informative, The DVD interviews each guy, as they break down most of the songs on the c.d. (at least the 7 big hit singles) from the song writing to breaking down the actual tracks in the studio, (the demo tracks) Which is really cool to hear how many layers they have on each song, and prove that the guys really do sing all the back ups them selves...also how much the songs have changed from the demo versions that they play you on here. Along the way it shows many cool extras.. acoustic, and t.v. shows, along with video clips.. It covers all the things that went on during Rick's car accident, and how there was 2 drummers live for a few shows, It even covers alot of Steve Clarke in the show, from some short interviews, to talking about his guitar playing style.. very cool.. I've been a fan of Def Leppard for many years, and actually learned some thing I never knew on here. If your a fan, or not.. this is a great "learning" tool for the band.. and a must have for all you Def Leppard freaks!

Case: Nothing to it.. just a track listing, wish they could have put more into that..

Favorite part of the DVD: I like the extra features, the acoustic stuff.. and hearing Mutt Lang's back up vocals on "Love Bites" which didn't make the song.. thanks god.. but it's pretty funny to hear..

Least Favorite part: Wish they would have thrown the videos on here, for each of the songs they were talking about, kinda would have made you appreciate the change in format, by the end of the recording process.. other wise the whole DVD is great..

Review: When "Hysteria" Classic Albums DVD was first released, it fast became the most loved DVD for Def Leppard die hards like myself.  Although easily the BEST Def Leppard DVD yet released, it can be rather hard to come by, and I swear I heard the voices of angels when I finally found it.  So what exactly sets this DVD apart from others?  Firstly, performances of the title track "HYSTERIA" and "Pour Some Sugar On Me", stripped down to just Joe Elliott and Phil Collen on acoustic guitars.  It's a refreshing way of hearing a song, especially when you (like me) own 3 versions of their greatest hits album "Vault", and have "Hysteria" on CD and cassette.

With that said, a lot of what you hear/watch/read about Def Leppard is very well known, and often very repeated information, and to fanatic followers like myself, it's nothing you haven't heard before.  Yeah yeah yeah, we KNOW the band is awesome, and we KNOW they've stuck through the worst crap imaginable all to sell some 46 million records so far, and for the sake of man kind we KNOW about their one armed drummer!  However, Classic Albums "Hysteria" takes the die hards even further, into song production, the mixes, backing vocals, and hidden 'voices' within each song.  A lot of "new" information of how a song was formed, or who sang what is revealed, which keeps both casual viewers and die hards happy.

I give this CD 5 stars out of 5, which according to this sites rating system, means my girlfriend will have to sit through it even though she doesn't know the bands.  Well no matter, because even someone who doesn't even really care for Def Leppard will be enthralled in the immense detail in song formation and "Hystoria" of making of this CLASSIC ALBUM.

Case: The case has the classic Andie Airfix designed "Hysteria" album cover.  Very nice, however no little booklets or anything which was a major bummer.  Just a list of the tracks.  That kinda pissed on my campfire.

Favorite Part of the DVD:   I like seeing how "Animal" and "Gods Of War" were created.  I also really enjoyed the acoustic performance with Joe and Phil.  Also, there's a really cool part where Rick Allen [drums] talks about his first live show on his kit with one arm...and how great the crowd reception was.  His eyes water, and you realise how genuine this band really is.

Least Favorite Part:  Joe Elliott's sunglasses!  On a more serious note, I would've liked to see "Armageddon It" on there, and a booklet inside the case.

Where you can buy the DVD: I found mine in a CD store in the mall.  Look around, and if they don't have it, ORDER it!  It's worth every penny.
