VARIOUS ARTISTS
AEROSMITHSONIAN

By Buck Dingo

Review:  I've heard a few tribute CDs and it seems that either they are tolerable or they are disgraceful, embarrassing not only the people that played on them but also insulting the band that they are attempting to honor.  Another problem I have with these CDs is that sometimes it seems like the musicians who contribute to them are using the name of the band being paid tribute, in an attempt to recapture a flicker of their prior glory.  On this release, it's nice to hear Davy Vain, Ron Keel, and Jason McMaster back in action.  The empty production of these Aerosmith classics leaves me wanting to turn this CD off and play the originals instead.  This is an album for fans of the musicians who have contributed to this project, i.e. (the above mentioned +) Carmine Appice, Steve Fister, Gilby Clarke, Keri Kelli, Derek St. Holmes, etc.  All in all the production of the CD lacks body, but the songs are tolerable.

Favorite song:  "S.O.S". with Davy Vain, and "Mamma Kin" with Derek St. Holmes

Least Favorite song:  "Get the Lead Out" with Jason McMaster

Bonus CD:  In this package a bonus CD was included with Ron Keels' Fair Game, Babylon A.D., and Rough Cutt.  This may be worth checking out for fans of these bands.
